A resident of Colorado for most of her life, Loris images reflect her reverence for the sublime beauty and quiet power of the west. Born in Iowa and relocating to Colorado 25 years ago, Lori draws upon both heritages in her work.
Growing up in rural Iowa I learned to see and appreciate a simple beauty a meandering stream at sunset and twilight fields. But when I moved to Colorado it opened my eyes to how much was truly lost in the taming of the land. I had never seen an intact wilderness until I came here. I try to convey the power of this in my paintings, especially in my wildlife paintings. There is such a wealth of wildlife in this state, they are as much a part of the landscape as the mountains and forests and canyons and sky. I have a hard time painting landscapes the scenes always beg me to add an animal
Lori studied art and geology at Colorado State University, but believes her greatest teacher has been that of observation and experience. An active outdoors person she paints from personal experience in Colorados inspiring wildlands.
