Tina Kellogg

Tina Kellogg became interested in stained glass after seeing some of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s lamps and panels in 1978. She was inspired by the unique way he used glass to depict all the wonders of nature. To this date, Tina still uses the original methods of Tiffany Studios in her work. Tina says “there is nothing as exciting as seeing a Tiffany Lamp come to life when lit.” All lamps are one of a kind. Each one recaptures the artistry of the originals through subtle coloration achieved by matching the finest glass available and through meticulous handcrafting of the metalwork in each shade.

Stained glass is a little like painting with glass. While working, Tina has a large variety of glass spread out on her worktable, like a palette, and by choosing each piece carefully and sometimes using multiple layers or raising certain pieces of glass off the panel, she gets subtle variations of shade and hue. These techniques all add depth and character to the piece. To achieve a particular effect in a piece, each glass sheet is carefully chosen and at times only a small portion of a sheet is actually used in a piece.

Tina’s windows have both physical integrity and inspired beauty. The richness and beauty of every change of light streaming through the texture and color of stained glass makes it a wonderfully satisfying medium in which to work and create. The challenge is to capture the essence of the subject without allowing the image to be compromised by technical difficulties inherent to stained glass such as extra lines to accommodate ease of cut, etc.

Tina also makes a wide variety of smaller gift items including fused plates, jewelry, and sun catchers.
