Ruth was brought up in an art environment studying art from the age of 10, then at the New York High School of Music and Art and at New York University as an integral part of her training in Occupational Therapy on through to the Masters Degree level. She states, as a practitioner and Professor of Occupational Therapy, I have always utilized art as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Sculpture serves very well to allow tactile exploration and visualizing shape, form, line and space. Color is also an integral part of my finished sculptures.
Ruth feels that, philosophically, the interpretation of an artistic presentation belongs to the viewer as well as the artist. In this context, it has always been a pleasure to share her efforts with others.
She explains, that in developing a statue, I sensate lines and movement. Quickly drawn I humanize these to inner movements. I seldom do more than single lines and a simple sketch, perhaps spending 10 minutes creating a 2 dimension sketch for a 3 dimension sculpture. My work is realistic to some extent but selective of details.
